General Information

Welcome to UTD and to the School of Interdisciplinary Studies . We hope that you will soon feel at home in the University and that the resources available in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies will help you in your academic life. The School offers five degree programs: the Bachelor of Arts in American Studies; the Bachelor of Arts in Gender Studies; the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies; the Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies; and the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies.

You have chosen one of the Interdisciplinary Studies degrees because they allow you a broader learning experience and a wider perspective than that provided by more traditional undergraduate majors. Because of their individualized focus and flexibility, they are appropriate both for students preparing to enter the workplace and for those who plan to continue their studies in graduate school. Most of all, they serve those students who seek a thorough grounding in the arts and sciences, and business issues from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Each student in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies is an active partner in the formulation of his or her program of study. Together with an academic advisor, you will devise an individual degree plan by drawing on all the resources of the University. To help you in your degree planning, we have put together this handbook which lays out policies and procedures concerning the program. We hope that you will find it useful.

The School of Interdisciplinary Studies maintains a Lounge (GR 2.801) for the use of students and faculty in the School.  We hope that you will make use of it for relaxing and studying. Since it is for the use of all, please be thoughtful of others when talking. Social events also occur in the Lounge during the school year, so watch the Interdisciplinary Studies bulletin boards (next to the Master's office, in the Lounge and near the Green Pit area) for notices.
