Disability Services

Disability Services is firmly committed to ensuring that qualified students with documented disabilities are provided with an equal opportunity to participate in the variety of educational, recreational and social opportunities at UT Dallas. Disability Services primary functions are to provide:

  1. academic accommodations for students with a documented permanent physical, mental or sensory disability
  2. non-academic accommodations
  3. resource and referral information and advocacy support as necessary and appropriate.

Non-academic accommodations must meet the same standards regarding documentation as academic accommodations. Academic accommodations for each student are determined by the Disability Services Coordinator on an individual basis with input from qualified professionals.

Services Available

The Office of Disability Services will provide any reasonable academic accommodation that a student needs due to his or her disability.

Students in the News

In the Spring of 2007, two students registered with the Office of Disability Services, Jeff Peters and Sean Carter, had feature articles written about them in the UTD Mercury and Pulse magazine.

Jeff Peters, a Psychology junior, has been visually impaired since he was 19 years old. You may read more about his experiences at UT Dallas in an article entitled "Canine Companion Enables His Owner" that was originally published in the 2007 March edition of the UTD Mercury.

Sean Carter suffered a traumatic brain injury in the Spring of 2005. However, two years later, after extensive physical therapy, he enrolled in three courses in the Spring semester of 2007 at UT Dallas. You may read more about him in an article featured in Pulse magazine entitled "Caring for Traumatic Brain Injuries".
