Health Center Services

What services are offered at the Student Health Center?

  • Diagnosis & treatment of acute illnesses and minor injuries
  • Minor emergency care
  • Laboratory testing ordered by our health care providers (e.g. urinalysis, chemistry profiles, mono tests, strep screens, pregnancy tests, STD testing, HIV, etc) for diagnostic purposes. We do not do lab testing ordered or recommended by providers outside the Student Health Center.
  • Immunizations (Limited)
  • Women's wellness exams, birth control, and pregnancy counseling
  • Specialty referrals
  • Ear lavages
  • Students may be referred for more serious problems that exceed the Center's capabilities

  • Nurse practitioner or physician office visit, consultation & diagnosis
  • Nursing care
  • Blood pressure checks
  • Referral advice
  • Health education/promotion
  • Contraceptive information
  • HIV/AIDS information & education
  • Weight management education

Who can use the Health Center?

  • Students who are enrolled in the current semester, have paid their tuition and fees and have a valid UTD Comet Card are eligible for services.
  • A student who has withdrawn from classes or The University is no longer eligible for care through the Student Health Center.
  • We are unable to provide treatment to students who are currently pregnant as this exceeds the Center's capabilities.
  • Faculty, staff, visitors, and family members of students are not eligible for care.

What about confidentiality?

  • All medical records are strictly confidential.
  • We cannot release any information regarding a patient record over the phone, fax, or email.
  • No release of information is possible without the written consent of the student, except where required by law. 
  • In case of a serious illness or in an emergency, next of kin will be notified with the student's permission.

We do not issue excuses from class for illnesses. This matter is between the student and professor.
